About... Joe Webster

I'm a 27 year-old "computer guy" from Cranston, Rhode Island. I've been involved with computers in some form since I was really, really young. Deep down, I'm a programmer at heart, but I'm jack of all trades. If your still reading this, you're either really bored or you're actually interested in learning more about me (in which case you are REALLY bored).

Aside from comp-u-tators, I have a long list of hobbies. Some of them, in no particular order, are: automotive work, wood-working, welding, photography, snowboarding, ATVs, gardening and aquascaping1. If sarcasm were a hobby, I would also list that here. I'm not particularly awesome at any of these things, but I do what I can.

I'm a big proponent of Unix/Linux (including MacOS) and I honestly look forward to a day when Open Source puts Microsoft where it belongs. I have used Linux daily for years now and I will be the first to admit that it still has a ways to come before it's for the general population. However, that being said, it's clearly becoming more complete by the day and I recommend everyone to try it. I believe a great starting point is Ubuntu. You can download it for free (as with most distributions of Linux) or get a CD mailed to you free.

I'm also believer that the Internet should remain 100% free/equal and as such I'm pro-Net neutrality.

About... this site

I've had a stake on this crazy ride we call the Internet in one form of another since the late 90's. I really started to get more involved in 2001 - back before the word "blog" sullied the good reputation of the Internet. My sites have always been a dumping ground for things I have found interesting mixed in with my slight sarcasm (get it, sarcasm? slight?).

I think the best part of the Internet is what most people consider the worst; those really lame, true to definition 'blog sites'. You know the sort -- an entry every other day letting us all know just how upset you are at Johnny because he kissed Betty, yadda yadda yadda. I guess a shorter way of saying that is "any myspace page ever". But I digress. The reason I like these sites is not that I have no life and have nothing better to do, but rather that they exist at all. It doesn't really matter who you are or how much of a waste of bandwidth you're site might be - you too can have one. Well, not those people in the 3rd world countries or in other places the media compaines don't want you to have access, but you get my point. The Internet is a great leveler, and provided those assole media companies don't get their way, it will stay that way.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I won't post anything about how Betty is a two-timing slut who can't keep her cooties to herself, but rather stuff that's cool lame AWESOME. Such things as:

1Aquascaping: The act of keeping an aquarium or aquariums.
